The Montana State University Philosophy Club (Phi Sigma Tau Honor Society)
The MSU Philosophy Club meets throughout the semester to discuss varying issues of philosophical interest. Meetings can include presentations, group discussions, or screening films. Topics are presented by both students and faculty members from the History and Philosophy Department, and participation is open to all. Previous topics have included consciousness, functional definitions of life, intelligent design, political philosophy, zombies, love, horror, mirrors, and the recent presidential debates. Phi Sigma Tau is the international honor society for philosophy. "The Society’s central purpose is to promote ties among philosophy departments in accredited institutions and students interested in philosophy. Both at the national and local levels, the organization of the Society is instrumental — a means for developing and honoring academic excellence and philosophical interest, and for popularizing philosophy among the general collegiate public" (from the PST Manual). Phi Sigma Tau publishes a twice-annual journal, Dialogue, which is committed to the publication of undergraduate papers in philosophy. The MSU Philosophy Club serves concurrently as the Montana State University-Bozeman chapter of Phi Sigma Tau. While interested and qualified students can join Phi Sigma Tau, membership is not necessary to participate in the Philosophy Club.
